Looking for a free alternative to Evite?

For a long time the default way to invite people was to collect everyone's email and send a card. It worked. It also meant half your guests found the invite a week late, in a promotions tab, next to a coupon for a mattress.

Most of us don't plan things over email anymore. We plan in group chats. So the invite should live there too.

One link beats fifty email addresses

With a link-based invite you don't collect anyone's address. You make the event, copy the link, and paste it where your friends already talk. When they tap it they get the date, the place and the RSVP buttons in one screen.

What to look for

• No ads on your invite. Your guests are there to see your party, not a banner for car insurance.
• A real headcount. Plus-ones should count, and you should be able to cap the number if you need to.
• A way to reach everyone later. Plans change. You want to post one update, not text forty people.
• It has to look good on a phone. That's where almost everyone will open it.
